Results day…
You may not get the result you had hoped for. You may not get into your University of your choice. You may not get into your programme of choice. You may feel like so many doors have been slammed in your face and you are feeling lost as to what you can do.
Trust me, I know how you feel. I know how it feels to face such disappointments. I have been there and I found options for myself that can lead to where I want to go. There is always another route you can take. There is always another way. The most important decision you have to make for yourself is to never give up on your dreams.
Here are possible options for you to consider…
Repeat the G.C.E. A Level Examinations
I failed in the first year at Junior College. I considered leaving for a Polytechnic but then I thought, what I wanted was to get a G.C.E. A Level certificate not a Diploma. So I stayed and repeated my first year. I did well as I was more familiar with expectations and eventually completed the G.C.E A Levels. With this same idea, if you repeat the G.C.E. A Levels, you will know exactly what you need to focus on and you will be more determined to get a better set of grades!
University Foundation
There is also an option for you to do a University Foundation programme which prepares you for your University programme of choice. So instead of re-taking the G.C.E. A Levels, which could take an addition year, you could move forward and do a University Foundation so that you are actually moving forward and not taking a step back.
Many universities accept graduates from Foundation programmes. They offer a good standard of education and are also shorter as compared to repeating the G.C.E. A Levels. This means you can get into a university sooner. Foundation programmes are a great option for students who didn’t do well at A Level or who have changed their mind about what they want to study. Foundation courses are also suitable for slightly older students in their late teens/early 20s who have decided that they want to go to university. It’s a great choice for international students as there’s lots of English language support available.
St. Andrew’s College Cambridge offers up to 50% scholarships for their University Foundation programmes. You can choose out of 12 Foundation programmes!
- Fashion and Textiles
- Psychology
- Engineering
- Humanities
- Media, Film & Communication
- Law
- International Relations
- Business
- Architecture
- Art
- Science
- Economics
Choose affordable University options
If you do not want to repeat the G.C.E. A Levels or start a University Foundation programme, there are many Universities around the world that will accept you into undergraduate and graduate programmes as long as you have completed the appropriate levels of study. For instance, if you are looking at doing a Bachelor degree, you need to show that you have completed what is equivalent to a year 12th education. The G.C.E. A Levels is such a qualification. As long as you have a certificate to show completion, you will be accepted by the University. However, if you are looking to get into a programme like Dentistry, Pharmacy etc, your results need to meet the entry requirements.
Here are 2 Universities in Europe (one in Spain and one in Poland) that you can consider if you are looking at this option.
