We needed to increase our offerings to students here in Singapore with more Distance Learning (DL) options. A chance engagement online led to a collaboration and partnership with the London Institute of Skills Development (LISD). LISD was expanding their outreach and recruitment efforts in this region and we managed to come on board with that effort. LISD provides students with affordable pathways to UK degrees via accredited courses by the Awards for Training and Higher Learning (ATHE). The ATHE qualifications is regulated by Ofqual. The Office of Qualifications and Examinations Regulation is a non-ministerial government department that regulates qualifications, exams and tests in England. Students who attains a Level 3 Diploma is able to enter into a University program at Year 1 whilst students who have completed the Level 4 and Level 5 Diplomas, will be eligible to do a Top-up degree. Those who complete the Level 7 Diploma will be eligible to do a top-up for the Master’s degree! You can view the list of universities providing progression routes here.
So what is great about the LISD? LISD provides you with the framework of doing the ATHE Diplomas and the Top-up degrees in one low and affordable fee either via Online or Blended Learning (BL). For BL, students complete 2 years online and then travel to the UK to do the final year of the degree at the University. The fees for 100% online for the full 3 years is £ 9700 (SGD$17,560) and for BL, the full fees for 3 years is only £ 15200 (SGD$27,500)!
The University of Leicester (UoL) is our highest ranked UK university partner. The UoL turns 100 this year and they are offering 50 students with 50% scholarships! The university will also be offering the same scholarships for the 2022 intake as well. All you have to do to apply for the scholarship to submit a 60 second video on What do you want to change?
The most popular course for Singaporeans, is Medicine. During the last September intake, 50% of the international cohort for Medicine are Singaporeans! Completed in September 2016, the George Davies Centre represents a unique opportunity to bring together world-leading medical research and medical education under one roof and to produce doctors who are able to deliver high quality care in an effective and compassionate manner in a rapidly changing environment.
If Engineering is your calling, then you are in for a treat! Besides the traditional General Engineering, Mechanical Engineering, UoL prides on their Aerospace Engineering programmes! The Space Research Centre focuses on the following:
- developing novel sensors and optics for high energy astrophysics, planetary landers and orbiters and interdisciplinary research in the Life Sciences and Medicine on its own and in conjunction with other research groups;
- providing engineering capability in Space;
- planetary science including concepts for the next generation of instrumentation, tools and techniques and planetary materials and their analysis.

The United States of America (USA) provides many opportunities for affordable higher education. Our partner, the International American University (IAU) is located in downtown Los Angeles, California! IAU focuses on Business programs and provide students with opportunities to do Associate degrees up to a Doctor of Business Administration (DBA) at really affordable fees. IAU programs are approved and accredited so you do not have to worry about the quality of education you will receive when you study at the IAU. There are 6 intakes each year so you can choose which one suits you best.
Our newest partnership is with Arden University, UK. For this collaboration, we are working together to provide learners in Singapore (especially adult learners) with opportunities to upgrade to bachelor’s and master’s degrees in areas like Psychology, Business (including the MBA), Human Resource Management, Criminology, Criminal Justice, and Healthcare Management via Distance Learning. There are 4 intakes yearly and you are able to pay your tuition fees in instalments. If you are a Polytechnic graduate, you may be eligible for the top-up degrees on offer. At Arden, age is really just a number. Your future is in your hands!
Our Hopes and Goals for 2022
At Up Grade Up Skill Consultancy Services, we are grateful to have been blessed with so many partners who share the same ideals and aspirations, we want to provide opportunities for upgrading to everyone who is looking for it. We started with Adult learners and then we expanded to students who have just completed their G.C.E. A Levels, IB Diplomas and Polytechnic Diplomas. We have added on to our offerings new partners who provide Blended and Distance Learning programmes as well. So for 2022, we hope to grow in presence here in Singapore and we hope to touch more lives for the better.
