Why is it important to study Psychology and how it can affect our businesses and you?

The Cambridge Dictionary defines Psychology as:

The scientific study of the way the human mind works and how it influences behaviour, or the influence of a particular person’s character on their behaviour.

From this definition, we can clearly see and appreciate that the study of Psychology is crucial if we want to have a firm control over the things which makes the world go round, Money. If we can understand how people behave or why people behave in a certain way, the Potential for Our Businesses is Limitless.

As the world shifts gear into a society with increasing dependence on Artificial Intelligence (AI), machine learning (ML), and how to facilitate it is becoming more widespread. There are so many courses that exposes participants to the world of ML and AI. But AI are putting many people out of work. People who have helped us to build our economy, our parents. But we cannot deny that we need to move forward if we want to survive. We need to embrace new technology and make it work to benefit humankind. But, if we are totally dependent on AI, we will lose the “human touch” and we will eventually lose ourselves. Even with a greater dependence on AI, there is a need for us to embrace aspects of Psychology and ensure we remain, human.

Covid-19 has caused much hardships to people around the world. Here in Singapore, we are no different. We felt the negative effects of the pandemic, as did everyone else around the world. We suffered, as did other people around the world. We are not totally “out of the woods” yet but We are doing better as compared to many other countries around the world. Why is that? What makes Us different?

What makes us different is our Resilience and Determination to Survive. Policies put in place by the government had one key focus: People First. All the policies that were rolled out focused on enabling the population to weather the crisis. Support were given to all levels of the community and businesses were given Lifelines to ensure that, as much as possible, employers can keep going and retain as many staff as possible. There is definitely many aspects of Psychology at play here.
